In Morganton NC near WalMart behind Hardees is a house that has been reported as haunted for many years. I cannot think of the name but it has been on tv before because of its history. The owner said she has had things move before her eyes and things moved around about the house. Pictures tilt and doors open by themselves among other things. I am going to research the name ,if anyone knows the name let me know. It is above Western Piedmont CC across 40 right behind Hardees big white 2 story plantation home.(going west bound get off the exit turn left go through light right behind Hardees) I know the history was the man was the first to build in that area and all of that land was plantation land and was worked by slaves. It may have been the last name Burke or the Burke Plantation or something to that effect. Its called the Magnolia House. My aunt babysat once for them years ago and she said the house IS haunted.

These are some interesting places. Any more stories about Briar Creek? Where is it? In Alexander Co? I'd like to hear some first hand accounts of Goat Farm Rd also. I haven't had many "experiences" at the places I've visited, so I like hearing other folks' accounts.

Stagville Plantation in North Durham off Old NC 75... we just finished a tour and not only ended up with some great EVP's, but had personal experiences too. Another place is the Hope Plantation in Windsor, NC.

There is a church in Patterson, NC called the Chapel of Rest. The pastor of the church hanged himself in the church because his wife cheated on him. I have been there during the evening and have heard noises like crazy. You guys really need to check this place out!

The following is the conclusion of the SouthernSpooks investigation of The Chapel of Rest. After doing a little research on the Lenoir area we came across the story of the Chapel of Rest, located in Happy Valley, NC. The story that has been circulating throughout websites featuring haunted places in North Carolina, is what made us interested in this church. Story has it that in the early 20's the preacher of the church caught his wife cheating on him. He was so distraught about the affair that he hung himself from the rafter above the front pew that Saturday night. The congregation found him hanging there when they opened the church the next morning. The story continues on to say that his blood stain is still on the floor below where he hung himself and the bible on the pulpit his supposed to tell you the exact date and how you will die. This story was just too good for us to pass up!
The Chapel of Rest has its own unique story without aparanormal twist as well. In 1887, Samuel Legerwood Patterson deeded the plot of land that surrounds his own family graveyard to the EpiscopalDieses of Western North Carolina so that the graves would be preserved. He also gave land adjacent to the graveyard to the Dieses so that a school could be built. The Chapel of rest was built thatsame year.
One of the most impressive graves in the cemetery is that of Confederate General CollettLeventhorpe. He was a British officer who had come to America for extended holiday. He found his way to Asheville, NC where he met his wife, Lousina Bryan. She was the daughter of General Edmund Bryan ofRutherfordton, NC. In 1849, Leventhorpe was granted U.S. citizenship. When the south seceded, he offered his military experience to North Carolina. He was the only N.C. Confederacy's English born solider to hold the rank of Brigadier General.
The original chapel burned to the ground in 1916. It was reconstructed under the direction of the Patterson School's headmaster, Reverend Hugh A. Dobbin. In 2002 the Chapel was fully restored to itsoriginal state before fire.
The Chapel is opened every day during daylight hours. Anyone can walk right in and look around. Thebuilding is monitored by motion sensor cameras. Right away we started to place pieces of theparanormal story to things in the church. There was a large reddish brown stain beside the front pew. It was right overhead of a rafter as well. There were no marks on the rafters that looked likea rope or anything else was hung there. They were very freshly painted and kept up. The stain on thefloor was indented. You could see where someone has tried to clean it up unsuccessfully. We can't say for sure if the stain is from blood or just a burn mark though. We searched the building over and couldn't find a bible anywhere! The bible story is obviously an embellishment to make the location seem scarier.
We did use our EMF detector and digital voice recorders while here. We were lucky to have caught what sounds like someone gasping for air as we leave the building. The recorder was left at the front of the church on the pulpit while we investigated the graveyard.
The cemetery is directly behind the chapel and is surrounded by a rock fence. The whole presence is like stepping back into a simpler time. The graves are from as early as mid 1800s to mid 1900s.
After doing the investigation we believe that the Chapel of Rest deserves another look. We can't say that it is absolutely haunted, but believe that something unexplainable is there. If you chose to visit this site, please do so with respect. Even though the church is not regularly used, the preservation society has worked very hard to keep the grounds up so that everyone can enjoy it.

I vistited the Satan Church last night and let me tell you, it is the most terrifying thing I have ever done. The countless stories I have heard about the place are absoultely revolting, just pure evil. Dogs skinned alive and hung from trees. They used to sacrifice the orphans from the orphanage next to it. You can FEEL the people watching you in the woods. My friends were held at gun point as the gate was locked behind them and they were to to get out. My friends have also been chased out by people weilding baseball bats and other weapons while having things thrown at their car. The feeling as you go down that dark gravel road is unlike any other feeling I have ever had. The air was think, heavy and tense. It was hot and still bone chilling cold at the same time. And you could just feel the evil vibes stirring around you, feeling the eyes watching you, boring straight through you, watching and I guess plotting how to get rid of you. People have gone up there and have gone missing, they were never found. An entire family was killed there. As you drive past the lake, you get to a house with a field and after you drive past that, there are abandoned cars apparently from the people they have either killed or trapped. Perfect way to do it huh? Some curious teenagers wander up there, their parents not knowing that they would go there, and they get snatched. The car is never found. No one knows where they could have possibly gone, who would ever expect a Satanic Church right? The roads are at first gravel (they can hear you coming) then it goes to a brick road with ditches on either side (you can't turn around). Usually at this point, you are either trapped inside, chased out, or possibly harmed or killed. I dont think I've ever been that scared. The feeling of people watching you, the air so thick and heavy and hot and cold, hearing leaves rustling around and twigs snapping, it was almost nauseating.

Sounds like Jamiew is someone who lives on the property and is trying to scare people out of trespassing to me. I have been there and it is indeed scary, but a lot of that sounded like exaggeration.

Hello everyone I remembered another place in Gaston County that is supposedly haunted, The old orthopedic hospital on South New Hope Rd Gastonia NC. No hopes for an investigation or hunt though, It now houses offices of Pathways LME (the area overseers of mental health services). [/quote This building no longer houses Pathways. It is all boarded up.

Broughton Hospital...Morganton Nc. My dad knew a couple of guys who use to work there. They would hear screams and strange things going on inside the abandon buildings. I think they recently tore some of them down. Also I bet a lot of people didnt know they had underground tunnels also claimed to be haunted. I wouldnt go there at night. They use to have the best haunted tail around that place, it was scary enough without the hired spooks.

Biltmore Estate in Asheville NC. I personally saw a man in period (correct) clothing walk past me at the pool. Looked pale and no expression just forward facing as he "walked" by. At the conclusion of the tour I asked the guide to how far of an extent and how much it cost them to get such fine and period correct clothing for their reenactors. She stated there were no reenactors and told me that they had reports of people seeing things but she felt it was because people got so tied up with the Estate that their minds made them see things. I KNOW WHAT I SAW was my response. Needless to say I am looking heavily into this and plan another visit ,this time I am taking a camcorder, digital voice recorders, and if I can sneak it in an EMF meter. I plan to take as many pictures of the area and every other nook and cranny in that place until I run out of room or get figured out and asked to leave, lol. I have heard that the "slave" quarters have boat loads of activity. There were no slave quarters at Biltmore. Construction began on the house in 1881, some 16 years after slavery was abolished.
