In my hand, as I type with the other, I hold a physical copy of nthe death certificate of Ms. Lydia Jane McCarthy. This record proves betond ANY doubt that Ms. McCarthy is NOT the famed ghost at the Jamestown, NC underpass! She was born in 1847, was WIDOWED, and was 76 when she died December 31, 1923. The cause of death is HEART DISEASE. That is IT! She was NOT the young woman killed out there. I also have a copy of the deth certificate for Lydia Jane Fields. She WAS killed in a car accident, in January, 1921. However, she was STRUCK by a car as she WALKED in the Proximity Community of GREENSBORO, miles from that underpass! Also, she was widowed too, and over 60! So NEITHER is THE Lydia. After examination of death records dating 1900 to 1940, 2 years after the first news accounts of something about that underpass, we have reached a disappointing conclusion. LYDIA DOES NOT EXIST! Or, if there is a ghost, she has a different name, because NO Lydias died in the alloted time period that fit the legend. NOT ONE! The possibility of a girl named Mary still exists, but THERE IS NO LYDIA!!!!

is it possible to look up every girl between 13 and 25 ( middle school to collage age girls, because no one really knows the exact age ) who died between 1900 and 1940, instead of just looking for lydias and marys.. also lydia or mary could have just been a nick name maybe..

These are the two names associated wit this legend. Yes it's possible. But I'm not foolong with it. That would entail combing through hndreds of thosands of death records, ad that's just not pactical. It is FACT... NO Lydia died ot there. Historians ad researchers all agree that the story is a fairy tale. That's it. Done. This includes Jamestown's OWN society... NOTE: As posted elsewhere and below, the genesis event has been found, and the womans name was neither Mary NOR Lydia, but ANNIE...

Lydia was Mary's mother Mary died there not her mother No, Mar... The woman's name was NOT Lydia, and was NOT Mary. The woman who died out there, June 20, 1920, was named Annie L. Jackson. This is CONFIRMED by records, including a death certificate, an obit, and 2 new articles in the old Greensboro Patriot. People keep saying I've said Lydia was the mother's name, and Mary the girl's... I NEVER SAID THAT! NOT ON THAT TV SHOW, NOT IN MY BOOKS, AND NOT IN ANY PROGRAM! What I said was, there was EVIDENCE that the girl's name MIGHT be MARY! Turns out it WAS NOT! Truth very rarely matches the legend. It is true with Payne Rd., and it is true here. Annie L. Jackson died in a wreck out there on June 20, 1920. The driver, who wa later arrested, was her companion, J.C. Hutchinson. She was a member of Centenary UME Church, and is buried in a posted fenced-in Holt's Chapel Cemetery in Greensboro. Annie IS the inspiration for the Lydia legend. There is no doubt, and no other such accident was recorded out there in the window of time given. We are working to uncover whether Lydia was her middle name or not. The name Burke Hardison for the driver who was "first," is a FAKE NAME; a pseudonym created for him by Nancy Roberts to protect his privacy. He REQUESTED this. Ms. Roberts TOLD me this herself. Seems Lydia might have been the same thing. Now, I wish people would quit making up more bull with this. Also wish they'd stop misquoting me about the names, mother, etc... But since I can't sue EVERYONE who does it (Well, I COULD, but not worth the $ to get 'em), I guess it will continue to happen. TO BE CLEAR... THE DEAD GIRL IS NOT NAMED LYDIA OR MARY, NOR IS EITHER THE MOTHER'S NAME. THE WOMAN KILLED WAS ANNE L. JACKSON, AND HER MOTHER'S NAME WAS SUSAN!

How old was Annie L. Jackson? Her age doesn't fit the legend, but truth and legend RARELY match up. She was 30-35. as indicated b census and te certificate. Fact is, hers wa the ONLY fatal wreck in the area in the time window..,

Joseph Calvin Hutchinson, aka JC Hutchinson, aka JC Hutcherson, aka Joseph E. Jones was driving that night, and was Annie's beau. He was 37. Died in 1959 of cancer.
Johnnie Cross, also in his 30s, was the other man in the car. He was unhurt. He died in 1937.
Miss Nettie Lethco, then 19, was the other woman in the car. She was pregnant at te time! She also was unhurt. She died in 1970.
And the only one killed, was Annie L. Jackson, 30/35.
Shortly after the accident, and the related court case, Hutchinson was living in Burlington under the assumed name Joseph Edward Jones. This is the name on the death certificate, however, the father given is NOT his real father, but a neighbor from his youth in Virginia... That from his great great grandson, Bryson H.

I know this is weird, but I have had that dream many times. But the young woman was me. I dreamed of a fight with my love or lover and something happened where I died. I wandered the field for a very long time, often trying to get others to see me. More often then not , they didn't see me. I used to play in the field. But then everything went black and that was it. There are more details but more what I did. I was heartbroken for a long time, then confused, then lonely, then had fun exploring where I could and with what I could. But there was always loneliness. If reincarnation is real. Could this be a past life? I have always looked for her story. But when I played, I could fly and I felt free. Then people could see me.

I'm not one to ask abut reincarnation, as I don't believe in it. "Once to live, once to die, and ten Judgement..." That's how I believe. Not sure what your dream means, but there isn't a field there, and from what I can see on the soil map from the year she died, not then either...

OK. Annie L. Jackson IS tge one who died in the vicinity of te Jamestown Underpass. She is te physical person who died there. Lydia" is a COMPOSITE character, created from a handful of different women who died in car accidents 1920-22. Annie Jackson died tere , June 20, 1920. The name Lydia comes from 8=60 year old widow, Lydia Jane Fields who was struck and killed by a car in the Proximity Mils village in Greensboro, December 8, 1921. And the idea she was a teenager from High Point, buried in Oakwood Cemetery there, comes from 18 year old Lena Mary Farrington, who died in a terrible crash on the Winston Road, 2 miles north of High Point, February 25, 1922.The idea tey'd been to a dance/prom comes from te Resurrection Mary legend in Justice, IL. These are the facts.

I was contacted today by the great niece of Annie Louise Jackson! She had done some family and genealogical research of her own and figured out that Annie and Lydia were one and the same. She not only believes it, she wants to help, and was glad to find others who believe it! She has a photo of the grave for me, and just MAY have one of Annie herself! We may son see what "Lydia" looked like!!!
