i had stopped on the side of the road to go look for the house cuz we werent exactly sure where it was, while looking we got lost on some 4 wheeler trail, but through the woods a ways back we saw a trucks headlights that had come from the direction we had parked but yet tehre was no one that past us, it turned around and quickly came our way so we scurried to the edge of the woods to make sure the didnt break into my car, as we watched from the woods the truck slowly came to a stop infront of my car, the windows of the truck were very dark and we couldnt see anyone inside, but the just sat there for a minute or two beside my car, then went along their way, but before the reached around the next curve they slammed on their brakes threw it in reverse, spun around, and came back to my car again, and just sat beside my car again, then they sped off down around the "S" curve faster than i would have felt safe going, so needless to say we jumped into my car and got the hell out, we could never tell what kind of truck it was or anything, i was only about maybe 50 feet from it with a clear view and could see nothing but headlights and taillights, and a few body outlines(of the truck, not people)
it was pretty sketchy business
also there was a previous post on page one by a man named dan, talking about a golden orange plymouth duster, at the abandoned house, that duster follolowed my friends around the road, speeding up and slowing down and flashing its brights, then they left and came back about 30 mins later and the same car did the same thing, its just weird that that car stays at the abandoned house and its the same car my friends described to me

Just adding my experience, Kitty yes the car and truck i explain in this story was EXACTLY the red car and truck:
payne road is an eerie place as your website described. me and three car fulls of people went down there as we live close to rurall hall and we decided three cars of people could take on anything. we parked in the road one car behind the bridge, our car past the bridge, and one car on the bridge. Everyone got out and we were going to go up towards the barn or old house, as soon as any one of us tried to go up there we saw the mysterious cars come out of no where, we had been outside of there for nearly 20 minutes and here these cars came from no where. everyone jumped in their cars and started them up except for the car on the bridge they couldnt get it to start. finaly after tons of coaxing they got it to work and on the way out of there, going out the same way we came i swear to you that i did see some sort of ghost or apparition, it was an arm of a person and a dog. the cars that followed us vanished as did your own.

I used to ride my horses on Payne Rd. I lived on Chestnut Tree Lane just one road down from the family killings in Rural Hall. I had several spirits on my property that were very nasty. It was so bad that we moved from there and have never gone back! If you want to hear more about it just email me and we will talk. There is not enough space on here for what I have to tell. My email is Meatmetal@aol.com just put in the subject title spirits. I am now a Ghost Tracker and Grave Dowser. The exper on Chestnut Tree Lane has haunted me for the past 2 years. I just want to warn people of what maybe out there. And to watch themselves when dealing with Spirits of this kind. So if you are interested in wanting to know more just email me.

i was just wanting to tell someone of my tales on payne road. I have been to payne/edwards road atleast 30 or more times over the past year. Everytime i have been there i always get a chill and some eerie feeling that something else is there. I have yet to have something really spook me except for deer jumping out of the road and various dogs coming out of no where and chasing my car. All that changed when i visited edwards road about a week ago...i was driving down edwards with a group of friends in my car and another friend drove another car behind me. We slowed down around these two abandoned houses where there used to be a golden brown car that someone spoke of in a post above. The car is no longer there...which is very strange considering nobody lived there for years and the car was there not too long ago. We stopped to check out these houses because i had friends who had not been to edwards/payne road before and they wanted to see if these houses were haunted. Well my friend and I were the first ones to get out and walk down the street to check out where these barking dogs were so they wouldnt surprise us if we walked anywhere around the houses. Well as we were walking down the street my friend was flashing the flashlight in the woods and we spotted an abandoned trailor a little bit off in the woods but visible from the road. He flashed the light from right to left and i saw these two glowing red lights inside the trailor that looked like crooked eyes to be truthfully honest but much much bigger. and then i asked my friend if he saw that and he said, saw what? and just as he spoke he flashed the light back on the trailor and there was a bright white light that appeared and then disappeared within seconds. Well being a little spooked we drove off to a nearby bank and left one car there and whoever wanted to go back to the trailor came back in the other car. We went back to the trailor minutes later and my friend shined the light all on and inside the trailor and i saw nothing there or inside it that might have reflected red. That same night, my friend was recording a video near the graveyard on edwards and it was pitch black but a white light appeared n then disappeared on his screen and those who were with him know he didnt mess with the camera. Once everyone had enough we called it a night. But two days later i came back to payne/edwards road with my sister and her boyfriend and we went during the day so we could see the trailor. I went up close to the trailor and looked inside and outside and found no red lights or anything that could have reflected red. It had me stumped so i figured i knew what i had saw. I would like someone to tell me the story of what exactly happened on payne/edwards road that made this road so haunted or so filled with spirits. I have heard many stories but i would like to hear the story from someone that is from the area and knows more about it. I would appreciate it, thanks. Jay

I hope it's still active I'm looking for a good ghost hunters group to join. I clicked on this thread because I also live very close to Payne Rd. I've been down it a couple times with the husband and kids. I haven't seen anything out there so far but I've got friends that have stories about it. My husband knows where the house at the bridge used to be but it has been torn down now. Anyway, nice to meet you all.

That's awesome Chellemo....thanks for contributing to the forum! I also live in Winston-Salem and make occasional runs to the Edwards road site. The house is long gone, but such foreboding still surrounds the whole area. I get goosebumps everytime I visit the area, however I have currently joined another forum that is solely dedicated to the 1929 murder/suicide of Charlie Lawson and his family. Once again, great to have you here at the forum and look forward to your post!

I also have gone down Payne Rd/Edwards Rd. I'd heard stories of it my whole life, but never been there. I finally went a few months ago. There's really nothing to see. The bridge is gone - there is no "crumbling foundation" of a house - there's just those old barn looking things. But it did feel really spooky out there! The sloping hills in that big curve and all the tall dead grass looking stuff everywhere - it really did feel spooky! But nothing happened. We stopped at the two abandoned houses too and peeked inside. Just two old houses - nothing weird happened there either. I personallly would love to see something paranormal, but its never happened and I don't know if it ever will.
And hycolakegal - I'm a member of the Lawson forum also. It's much more alive than this forum - but this one seems to slowly be awakening from the dead!

I've been down Payne Rd. once. That was about a week ago. I did feel a little odd out there, but the only thing that chased us was a friggin' deer!!!! Ha!! We're going back in a couple of weeks though now that I know where I'm supposed to be looking.
