I have no idea who owns that. if you can get ahold of Samuel Brown with Yadkin Valley Paranormal, he might can tell you, but I have no contact info anymore. I DO know that TAPS has been trying ot get in, so if they can't, I wouldn't get my hopes up.

I just read a book by Lee King. The beast of Rickards Road and the Ghost of Payne Rd. Now I'm realizing this was bull. The Payne rd one spoke about a little girl (emily watson) who killed her family about 200 years ago and how she got Mr Lawson to kill his family (I knew this was bull because I knew the Lawson killings happened in Walnut Cove). It spoke of a man named Jim Christian who was a PI, who investigated murders on the road. It was a great story, but seemed far fetch...has anyone heard of this book.

Ummm... NO. But if some idiot is tying Lawson to Payne Road in a book, that MIGHT explain why this vampire of a story just won't die no matter HOW many times I drive a stake through its heart!!!!! Where'd you find it?

I saw your post on another forum, Crystal. My response is there. Just know that the property has ALWAYS been in the EDWARDS Family. For GENERATIONS!!!! The "Diary Of Edward Payne" is likely something placed in the Edwards House to scare people. And, you COULD access the upper floor. I know several who had gone up there. And they experienced stuff, including the bleating of a phantom goat! I'm sorry, but these are historical FACTS concerning that property.

Amy, my sis, once saw what we call a "Runner" out there. This is an elemental creature that looks for all the world like a deer... until it rises on its hind legs and sprints away like Carl Lewis!!! Don't know what its official name is, but we call it this because, whenever seen, they are usually running away! My feeling is that this might have something to do with all the stupid "Satanic" or occult stuff that people used to go out there and fool around with. They have been seen in other locations in the Piedmont area. Michael, my name is Chris, i was wondering if you figured out the real names for these "runners" i would love to know and find out about them

No, and no one seems to. My sis was looking through a demonology book, and found an individual fellow that looked similar, but it wasn't our rather cowardly seeming thing!

Incidentally, another round of mixing up the Lawson Story with Payne Rd., where it decidedly did NOT occur, has begun. ARRRRRRRRGH! I am so TIRED of staking this vampire of a story! Charlie Lawson NEVER lived on Payne, nor did he kill his family there! Furthermore, There WAS NO EDWARD PAYNE EITHER! The property i n question is, and always was, the EDWARDS property!

I'll have to check it out with someone. I know it was in the 1990's though, when the Edwards House burned. I believe they said it was lightening, but I'm not sure. Someone said it was intentional.

Incidentally, there WAS another old house on the actual Payne Rd. section of that spooky route which burned decades ago. This was the Browder place, but NOT the Browder Plantation. The author of that Rckards Rd./Payne rd. book told me that Payne Rd. once stretched all the way across to the Lawson Farm. This appears to be impossible. The dirt trail by which the Lawson place stood had no name that anyone living could remember. It was just a private road. Also, the section of Payne Road now called Bolejack Rd. ends on Hwy 8... with a honkin' big house directly across the road, which has been there for decades! He MAY be talking about one of the other places the Lawsons lived, but I just don't think so. In any event, the road the Lawson Farm was on has NOT ever been called Payne Rd., and certainly wasn't known as such back when Charlie Lawson committed his crime, nor at any time since.
