A friend of mine went out to Lydia's bridge with some friends and a recorder. She said they got freaked out about something and left. She thought she had cut the recorder off as they were leaving but it had been on the whole time. She said you can hear very distinctly the word "HOME" but from what I understand the word was said in a voice that did not sound human. We were talking about Lydia on fb the other day and she said she still has the tape somewhere. My girlfriend and I live in Trinity NC, but we have always hung out in the Greensboro, High Point, and Jamestown area. My girlfriend actually works 5 minutes from the bridge. Lydia's story has always interested me. I was wondering if you guys found any info on a Mary Lydia Jones? I was checking out the www.greensboring.com/2011/08/escape-from-lydias-bridge-haunted.html?m=1 article and was curious.

I looked and looked for such a desth record, which is required by law since way before this supposedly happened. Nope. Not a thing...

We had searched before for this Mary Lydia Joes. Just looked again. The name DOES appear, but thy all either were born far to early, or too late. All but one. This one was born in generlly the right time... 1905. However she appears to have either been an infant who died, or was stillborn. So t looks like Mary Lydia Jones is just another red herring.

A very recent discovery by a High Point University student doing a class project, seems to have solved the mystery of the ghostly woman's TRUE name. She found a woman named Annie who was killed in an accident on High Point Road in 1920. The similarities in the true story of this girl and in the legend are just too close to call coincidence. While she is about 11 yers older than the highest age given for Lydia, we all know how stories can be changed and twisted as they become legend. I'm researching further, but I'm 95% confident this Annie IS the basic genesis...
