Has anyone checked this out for paranormal activity or think it might be worth it? It's a couple of miles from me and we've walked around there in the daytime a couple of times. the air seems heavy there, not sure how to better state that.
During the Revolutionary War period (1775-1783) the situation in the area that was to be Stokes County presented three distinct problems: first the British, second the Indians who had been encouraged by the British to step up their actions against the settlers, and lastly were the Tories (British Loyalists).
Squads of local militia under the command of Joseph Winston, Jack Martin, and Matthew Moore were responsible for keeping the Tories, Indians and British from this region. Visitors can visit the ruins of Revolutionary War hero Colonel Jack Martin’s 3-story home, The Rock House. The site once served as mustering ground for local militias in the Revolutionary War and the War of 1812.

When do you think you'll go? I would be intrested in checking it out. Is it like a state park or something? I just moved to NC from Daytona Beach FL so I'm not too sure of the area.

Oh no, it's just the remains of a very old house. If you go almost to the bottom of the following link there are a couple of pictures of it...http://www.visitstokesnc.com/Default.aspx?tabid=33&g=7
It was built in the late 1700's and I like really old things. Here is a small piece of info about it:
The Rock House Ruin (ca. 1780's) is one of the oldest structures still standing in Stokes County. During the war years the Rock House was used as a fort against the Indians and Tories as well as the headquarters and a rallying point for the militia. You can still see the gun ports built into the walls.
I found it hard to find directions - I'll be happy to post them if anyone needs them.

Right now, its really hard for me to make plans like that. Between my husband, my 7 year old and my 1 year old I barely have time to breathe!!! If I didn't have all this responsibility tho I would be ghost hunting all the time!! I've already told my husband - once the kids are grown, I want to get some ghost hunting equipment!!!!

It's a gorgeous old place....I often cut through and drive by there, but seldom have time to stop. One of my daughter's friends lives just up the road from there, I try to detour by it when they're visiting or I'm picking her up for some event or another.
The historical society or Rock House Society, whoever took over it's care, has done a wonderful job with maintaining the property and stopping deterioration.

We did a school field trip to Rock House when I was about in the 5th grade or so....that got me hooked!
One of the stories I remember about Rock House is that Colonel Martin's daughter was kidnapped by either the Tories or Indians(?) and taken to a cave on the mountain surrounding Rock House. (Maybe to force his surrender?) His daughter signaled her location to her father by waving her petticoat, and he was able to rescue her.
There are also stories that local residents took refuge in the house during the revolutionary war, since it would have been almost impenetrable.

I finally visited the Rock House and thought it was awesome! I would like to know if anyone here knows where the grave of Colonel Martin is located? I thought it was at the Rock House, but it isn't.
