We are currently working at that church. We are fixing the roof and repairing and painting the bell tower. I have heard that the place was haunted but haven't seen anything as of yet. I will try to post any strange goings on while we are working there. Seriously? I can attest from driving by the area that there were workers there around the time in question and that certain parts of the church, particularly the bell tower, were repainted. Also, they have chained off the driveway with a sign warning against trespassing during night hours, just as an update for anyone thinking of going there. I know that won't deter most people from going, but if you do choose to go anyway, at least leave it as you found it. I've heard stories of people breaking in and/or vandalizing the church, and as much as I've always wanted to go in there, especially at night, breaking in isn't the right way to go about it. Not to mention, I'll never understand the desire to vandalize these old churches, cemeteries, and other abandoned buildings... I just don't see what that is supposed to accomplish, except making yourself look bad, along with reflecting poorly on the entire paranormal investigator and urban exploration community. Anyway, in other news, I'm pretty sure I have conclusively found (at least to my own satisfaction) the location of the old Red Room house (which is now long gone), but I will not disclose it publicly nor privately, due to the fact the people who own the property and the locals obviously don't want people fooling around there. Besides, the house itself is gone, so there's not much point to messing around there anyway. No, it's not the sometimes-abandoned, sometimes-not (over the 10 years I've been going down there) house at the very end of the road that most people think it is, and it's not the large, old, occupied house at the beginning of the road that I've heard a few people claim over the years. As I said, the Red Room house is long gone, and I can personally attest it has been gone since sometime before 2006 when I first started investigating the area. It was also in 2006 that I unwittingly found the location of the former Red Room house, almost by accident, but I've recently come to the conclusion that that was, in fact, the actual Red Room location.

We KNOW exactly where the house was. And the story turned out to be anoter transplant and variant of the true Lawson Story... Oh yea, I know you do! You wrote the book LOL (which I have a copy of, BTW). However, MOST people around this area don't know. I'd say roughly 90% (or maybe even more) people who I talk to about it think it's the house that still stands at the very end of the road, and a handful think it's the big white house near the beginning of the road not far from the church. I think people just want to refuse to accept the house is gone so they can keep the stories of Red Room alive and relevant, and, I guess in a way, they are. Just as the murder story of the house was a transplant of the Lawson murders, it seems now the Red Room stories themselves are being transplanted onto that other house at the end of the road. It's interesting how some local legends evolve and refuse to die.

Yes, it is. I still find people trying to revive that old Edward Payne story from "Payne Rod." Despite te fact we have proved he never existed, and that the house belonged to the Edwards Family. Thx for getting the book! It's now officially out of print, as tye publisher retired. I have a stock of less than 150.

So, the red room house IS gone! We went down there, and were told that it was the white house at the end on the left. When did it burn? Got any photos of it? I don't know the church's back story, but would like to know it. Do you know who owns it? Though others are willing to just go somewhere, I prefer to have permission.

Church was boarded up and when we got inside the oregan had played one note. OK simple vibration of hitting floor from jumping in. OK standing still 2 notes. Felt like being watched by many people. The house all different ball game. I can tell u the layout of the house and where the cellar was. Was said awful things happened at that church and the house too.

People would take oujia boards and what not down there. Something happened and was supposedly a mass murder at the church. If you go to the church afree 2am and shine your headlights on the church it pulses red.

I live in davie county. The red room is still standing, but the old church is now being renovated!!! I just went to show my kids. I've had experiences as a young teen and adulthood. One night my sister and I were in the cemetery. She caught pics of a orb, and something howled at us at very close range. We didn't stick around after that and this is the first time I've been back.

The red room is there but has been boarded up. Also they have it blocked so you can no longer drive down to turn and have your lights shine through the window.plus it's really grown over.

I know the house you're talking about- the last house on the left where the road is blocked off, but that's not the Red Room. I'm not saying that house isn't haunted- I wouldn't know because I haven't done anything there, and a lot of people think it's the Red Room because the Red Room is gone now. I've found the location of where the Red Room was, and it's on the same side of the road as that house and not far from it, but all traces of the house are gone (or at least any we could see at night with flashlights). If you look, you can tell there used to be a house there years ago, and when I was there, there's still a barn at that location, but it's run down too with trees growing through it, so it might have fallen down by now. This was years ago- probably 2006 when we found the barn.

That house is NOT the Red Room House. It was burned long ago. I repeat... that last house in the left is NOT it. It was taller...

I live in Davie county right down the road at that intersection before your get to point road now they have bars on the windows of the cherry hill church and a shelter in the back before you get to the grave yard and I have family members burried in that grave yard they also keep a babys casket in the back room no one knows why , and yes it is a very well known rumor that its haunted and after midnight everyone seems to think so I have walked point road after midnight and only made it to the pet cemetery without getting super freaked out and then we decided to look around the church and you do hear noises and see some freaky crap but yes its very interesting

I stumbled on this looking for contact information. It has made for an entertaining read. I've lived in DC my entire life and remember the red room story. I live less than 2 miles away for the past 20 years. As a teen we would drive out and shine our lights inside. Once we did stick our head inside but the house was dilapidated so going in was a risk I wasn't going to take and that was in the early 90's. I later delivered mail on that road every day and watched as the house basically fell in on itself. I know for a fact the house is not there. I don't know if it actually burned down or not but I know who to ask. The house at the end was lived in by a guy who got busted for drugs when I was delivering his mail. I think think it was a pretty big bust that sent him to prison and it's been boarded up since.
