Hello. I am new to your site and joined because I belong to a Paranormal Group here in the UK and love investigating and would like to find out more about the subject and chat with like-minded people. However, my Sister lives in Greensboro, NC and we try to visit her once a year and my Nephew (although he is only 11 years old) is very interested in the same subject and so I would love to hear of any places that are worth a visit in that area. I would also love to hear about any places in the Beaufort/Morehead City or Outer Banks area that are worth a look as we always try to spend one of our two weeks down there when we visit. I live in a town called Brixham in South-West England which has many "haunted" properties so if anyone has any questions about places down here in Devon or Cornwall, I would be more than happy to chat about them if anyone is interested. I am originally from a village in Warwickshire which is just outside of Stratford-Upon-Avon (Shakespeare country) so I do know some about that area too. I look forward to hearing from anyone.

Welcome to the site! Great people here. Try to let us know when you will visit your sister, and I'll try to show you some of the area sites. Know anything about Glamis Castle? I know it's where one of Shakespeare's most famous plays is set...

Glamis Castle - ah the renowned "Macbeth". For years until her death, Glamis Castle was the beloved home of the Queen Mother, Elizabeth. Apparently she never felt more at home than when she was there so if there is anything there spirit wise it obviously never bothered her but I have not heard of anything specific. I am so far from Scotland down here but I do have a friend that moved up near there last year so if you want to know anything about the place I can ask him for you - let me know if you do. Thanks for the welcome and the invite of showing me some of the sites. We are currently trying to sort out when we will visit next - my Husband would like to be there for Thanksgiving but I do not expect that will happen because of the constraints of taking holiday at work but we do hope to be there in either January and/or June, finances allowing!! I will keep you posted on that one.

Cool! I am curious about the secret room, and the so-called Glamis Monster; supposedly a true heir who was born grossly deformed and lived an exceedingly long time. Supposedly, the Earl would take his eldest son aside when he reached his majority, and show him the true heir...

Hiding away somebody in the family that had some kind of deformity or illness was quite common with the Aristocracy over here (and probably still is!). There are many tales that involve members of the Royal Family being hidden away in the past too - such as the one that was considered a suspect in the "Jack the Ripper" case. I will see what I can "dig up" for you and I will ask Neil if he knows anything about it.

Yes, Prince Albert Victor. I do not believe the Duke of Clarence was ol' Saucy Jacky," though.

Hi Michael Neil suggested that we check out a website www.castle of spirits.com/glamis2.html Hope you find something there. I will look too but if it does not work out, let me know and we can try elsewhere. Any other questions about places in the UK, let me know and I will see what I can answer/do. Gail

Try the site "hauntednc.com". There's a listing by county that may be places of interest. My husband and I honeymooned in Beaufort. There is an old cemetary in the town that is supposed to be haunted.

Haunted NC seems to be defunct as an active group, though I'm not sure. The story concerning the cemetery in Beaufort is about a little girl who died of an illness while at sea. She was placed in a rum barrel to preserve her body, and the barrel served as her coffin when she was finally buried. Don't know how true that is, but they leave toys on her grave...

Isn't Beaufort where Black Beard's house is too? I heard they do tours there for those that are interested.

I THINK so, Becky, but I'm not 100% certain. Amy knows all about ol' Teach, so I'll ask her! Oh, our girl Kristen is pregnant! Whoo-Hoo! I'm gonna be an "uncle" AGAIN! She's my college friend David Crutchfield's little sister. Can't rememeber if you met her or not. She works at GC, and she got us in there. Oh, HauntedNC is apparently still operational, as they are due to give a report on GC from an investigation they did there a year ago...
