Me and several of my freinds have been to both the Payne House and the Daulton House, we all have seen, heard and felt things happen at both places. The Daulton house was finially torn down to keep people out. I have several stories to tell of that House. The history of the family is enough to scare the life out of you.

Payne road is one of the biggest hot spots in rural hall, use to be a dirt road but paved now. My team and i have had alot of footage EVP's and off the wall emf readings. We had asked for a spirit to show them selfs when 3 of our flashlights went dead with brand new batterys. We hve also had someone try to chase us off the road when leaving one night and when we got near the city the lights cut off and it was gone. Nice place to check out if u are out therebut its nothing to be fooled around with if u dont know what u are doing.

Could you post some specific stories that you have about the Payne Road area. The stories I have heard are vague and seem lacking in any factual basis. Please post some if you have a chance.

I went to Payne Road, roughly 35 years ago, when still dirt. We were also chased off the road. We got so scared we hightailed it out of there, back to Rural Hall. I had heard that moonshiners worked in the corn field in the bottoms, and it was probably one of them. Specifics? In the huge sweeping curve, approx 140 degree curve, there was a home. It may be torn down now. Leave Rural hall , you will start going down hill, and come to a huge sweeping left curve., on your left is where the house stood. It was always known in my time that the home was "haunted". Supposedly, chains were heard rattling. There has been an investigation, if I am correct, by the paranormal investigative group, Haunted NC (google it and I think the "Abandoned House" is probably this Payne road site. You can find many details there along with metered readings, photos, etc. Referenced is also the Lawson Family Murders, one of my all time stories of interest. Germanton and Rural Hall are full of areas of interest for the paranormal seeker. Memory Lane in Germanton, I will ask my mom about that one. Peace.

The school is at the very end of Memory Lane. If you kept driving straight you would drive into it. I thought it was a house the first time I saw it. I went there last weekend and actually walked through it. It is very dangerous - holes in the floor - ceiling falling down. The outside is extrememly overgrown also. Right now, you can only see the very top of it when you drive up to it.

The school is not haunted though. Charlie Lawson who lived on Brookcove Rd, a few miles from the school, murdered his entire family (except for one who was gone at the time) on Christmas Day, 1929. The connection with the school is that his children went to this school. There has never been a murder or death at the school itself though. But because it is so old (built in 1921) and overgrown - that in itself makes the school spooky.

payne road is an eerie place there is an energy surroding the whole place. me and three car fulls of people went down there as we live close to rurall hall and we decided three cars of people could take on anything. we parked in the road one car behind the bridge, our car past the bridge, and one car on the bridge. Everyone got out and we were going to go up towards the barn or old house, as soon as any one of us tried to go up there we saw the mysterious cars come out of no where, we had been outside of there for nearly 20 minutes and here these cars, or quite possibly 1 car, came from no where. everyone jumped in their cars and started them up except for the car on the bridge they couldnt get it to start. finaly after tons of coaxing they got it to work and on the way out of there, going out the same way we came i swear to you that i did see some sort of ghost or apparition, it was an arm of a person and a dog. the cars or car that was following us vanished.

Hi all! This is in response to the school in Germanton on Memory Lane. This school was were several of the Lawson children attended before the murder suicide of Charlie Lawson and his family. For those of you that "Don't Know", On December 25, 1929, farmer Charlie Lawson shot and blungeoned to death his wife and 6 of his children, then took the gun and shot hisself. This is a known tragedy at this forum although the place where he lived in stokes county stills gets confused here. He and his family are buried at Browder Cemetery in Walnut Cove. And Charlie with his family lived off of Brook-Cove road (not Payne Road!). The small cemetery is also off of Brook-Cove Road. I have visited several times. Hopes this helps with the confusion of where the murders actually took place and what happened. Take Care!

I went to Payne road last year in the summer. It was getting dark when a friend and I decided to go and check the place out. It has been years since I last seen the place. I remember when it was just a dirt road. My friend and I were sitting on the side of the road with the car off and was seeing what would happen. Then a car came speeding down the road with bright lights came toward us. My friend started the car and starting high tailing it down the road. the car caught up to us and was right behind us. After we had lost the car my friend drove up to the same spot and we sat there agian. I think that was the only time we were chased by another car. I really don't know if it was anything weird going on considering that people actually do live on the road. Either way the place gave me the creeps not to mention the nice touch of lighting in the background and thunder. Before it was getting dark I noticed that we had passed a few deserted houses that looked like people had came by and marked grafitti on them. It looked like crosses and other symbols. Does anyone know anything about those houses? I also saw the graveyard that I have heard people talk about, someone once said that they found 2 teenagers murdered down there..I'm not sure if I am correct but has anyone else heard about this? I know there also used to be a church down there. So whats the story on Daulton Rd in King? I go through the town quite often but never once heard of this story.

Hello, everyone! The house on the property out in the Payne Road area burned long ago. It belonged to the Edwards Family for several generations. Out of all the stories and legends, I can document with 100% certainty, only two of the violent deaths. One was a farmer who blew himself up, and the other is a young woman who was killed out there in 1992. I know there are other deaths associated with the area, but these two are verifiable. Edwards Road ends on Payne Road, and I have been told they were once named the same. Most of the stories concern the property on Edwards Road that burned. Onlt the foundation remains. The bridges that once were home to legend are no longer there. The area STILL has a certain energy to it, and it is spooky at night. But, without the Edwards House (Not the Payne House), and without those bridges, a lot of the teeth have been pulled from the tale. As for mysterious vehicles which try to run you off the road, I think this has a living human origin. There are plenty of places out there for a vehicle to quickly and completely vanish, day otr night. There are people out there who are tired of all the intrusions by outsiders. Also, I have been told by a law enforcement officer that The Klan has a strong presence out there. They may not want people snooping around either. In any event, the law patrols the area far more than they once did, and they'll run you off. Patrols, I was told, are especially thick around Halloween now.
