I am currently looking for stories from High Point to be included in a triad ghost book! We have Winston-Salem and Greensboro covered very well, but only have a couple from HP, namely a theater ghost at HP University, and a historic hotel. I am looking for stories that are actually within the city limits of the City of High Point. Lydia will NOT be a part of this work, as she is in the first book, with updates in the second. So she's ghost-non-grata, I'm afraid... UNLESS, of course, you have the address of her house, or the graveyard where she's buried, with accompanying stone info!! lol... The Triad book is scheduled for release next Fall, but deadlines loom so I need to find at least 4 more HP stories by January. Please let me know if you have anything, and if you want to be quoted, and your name used or not. Anyone who doesn't tell me something about their name, will go un-named, or have a pseudonym created, as I'll assume you don't want your name used. Thanks!

I don't live in the High Point area, but I do remember reading this story awhile back:
Memorial Auditorium at High Point University is said to have a spirit that haunts the Auditorium. His name is Hersel, who was a drama student there. He hung himself on opening night in the costume room after much abuse and criticism from fellow students. Not sure if this is a story you have already prepared for your new book or not, I just wanted to pass it along.
I also understand that there is a historic castle in High Point called: Castle McCulloch (circa 1832) 3925 Kivett Drive. I'm sure you already know about this place, I'm just not sure about any hauntings there.
Peace

Thanks! Had heard of Hershel, but not where he haunted. The castle SHOULD have a ghost, but don't know if there is one. Will have to ask Sissy about that, as she knows the place better than I. Thanks again! Will definitely call upon a few people I know at HPU to check out this story!

I came across this incredible site while searching for abandoned places in NC. The place that caught my eye is titled "week-end retreat". And has a lengthy description of the place. Below is a short paragraph. "In the city of High Point North Carolina used to be an old tourist attraction most likely from the 1930's-1940's from my best guess and is unknown by many to this day as Carter Town, it sat on the outskirts of the city limits though only about a ten minute drive from the cities center." structuraldescent.blogspot.com/Though no hauntings were mentioned, doesn't mean there aren't any, so I would definitely think its worth investigating. Who knows what you might dig up?

Memorial Auditorioum at High Point University has been demolished. No word on whether or not Herschel haunts the new building. Have leads on 2 High Ponit area ghosts. Anyone know anything about a house on Triangle Lake Rd.? Or the "Fiddler" at Kersey Valley?

Hi! I see that you are looking for stories from High Point. I used to live there, from the time I was 15 til 18. my mom, dad, and I lived in a house on Johnson Street. I thibnk it's been torn down now, but anyway, there was a ghost there. This was 25 years ago. I first saw her when I was 16. I had a job at a local fast food place, and I was late getting home one night. As my friend pulled into the driveway, I saw a woman pull back the curtains, and look out at us. It was around 2 o'clock in the morning, and I thought it was Mom. But when i got inside, everyone was sound asleep! The next time I saw her, I was alone in the house about 8 o'clock. I heard something in the living room, and when I went in there, a little old lady in a violet dress was standing by the fireplace mantle. She wore glasses, and was white headed. I was startled, and asked, "Can I help you?" She looked at me and said in a soft voice, "You look just like my Mary Anne." Then she vanished right before my eyes! I screamed, and ran out the door. I sat there on the porch til Mom and Dad came home! It was a long time before I saw her again. This time was in my bedroom. I was sound asleep, just after my 17th birthday. I was suddenly awakened by a deep cold, even though it was Summer. There the old lady stood, at the foot of my bed. She looked rather cross. "What are you doing in my Mary Anne's bed?" she demanded, then disappeared! I went running and slept with Mom that night. dad took my bed, but nothing happened to him. We started asking questions of the neighbors. One older lady finally told us that the old lady I was seeing had died in the house back in the early 70's or late 60's. She was a widow who lived alone. The woman told me Mary Anne was the woman's daughter. She was killed in a terrible accident back in the 1920's, and the poor old woman never got over it.To make matters worse, she said that periodically, people would show up saying they had driven the young woman home! I often wondered if this had anything to do with the story of the girl out at the Jamestown railroad bridge, but I always thought her name was supposed to be Lydia? Then I saw all these posts about maybe her having another name, and decided I'd post my story. Please look into this? Thanks!

Thanks for meeting me this morning, julia. Was surprised to find you live so close, and that we'd actually run into each other at the library. I just got through talking with a High Point Police Officer. The address you provided does not exist. He said this could be due to renumbering on the street, so we have no way of being sure which house you're talking about, short of us going down there for an on the spot look. If you want to do this, just give me a call. Thanks again!

Weird thing is... I remember a Mary Anne that would have fit in this time period when I was doing the research on Lydia. Did you find out the widows name???

Well, I located two Mary Annes whose age and dates of death would fit... Unfortunately, the CAUSE of deasth doesn't match. One was meningitis, the other, tuberculosis... I DID locate a Lydia who was killed in a casr accident in 1921, and the date fits. But she was 60... Wondering if maybe this factual death got mixed up with another story? her name was Lydia Fields...

Well, I am very into the paranormal due to my personal experiences. My house in High Point is haunted. By the way, you can put it in your book if you want to. When you turn the lights off in the kitchen at night, they're noises like drawers opening and closing. I am not bullshitting here. My dad tried to play it off like it's the cats but my cats look as dumb founded as me. Please get in touch with me I would love to be a part of this!
