As I was trying to think up of anymore locations, this place came to my mind. Hanestown off of Stratford Rd. in Winston-Salem. I have been there many times because I used to go to Hanes United Methodist until I was about 14 yrs old. I have heard my grandmother and mom talk about the houses that are supposedly haunted in that area. The houses out in that area were built probably I want to say in the early 1900's. The Hanes Mill is not far from it and the houses were for the employees who worked there. My great grandmother worked there pretty much all her life starting at 14 yrs old.
One story that I have heard was of the young married couple that was killed in a tragic accident I don't know if it was in that area because I also hear that the house the couple used to live in was haunted. The house is gone now but I have heard that you will see the woman walking around in the woods wearing her wedding gown. There are other houses out in the area that are known to have paranormal activity. Alot of them I believe are empty and I think alot of the people that lived there a long time ago are gone. I think the houses are probably for rent. I will have to talk to some relatives that might know more about this town. If any of you have heard about this story or know anything else about the town I'd like to know.

I might ride down there during the day to see what the town is like now. I haven't been down there in years. If anyone else is interested about this place let me know. I believe where the ghost of the woman wearing the wedding dress is seen is at an empty lot. Plus I have also heard that there was a man found dead years ago in one of the fields.

I have heard a few things. My Dad retired from Sara Lee at that plant in the mid 90's. At a signing at Barnes and Noble late last year, a fan told me about a ghostly couple seen on the side of the road near Salem Creek on Clemmonsville Road. Know anything about that?

hm...not right off the bat. I will proabably try to get in touch with one of my relatives that hopefully can fill me in on Hanestown more and maybe some other places. Back in the day he used to go and find places that could be haunted.

I lived in Hanes village from September 1942 until June 1954.I attended Hanes Elementary School. Never once did I hear of any of the houses in Hanestown being haunted. As a child and a teenager living there I would have heard of haunted houses if any stories had been circulated. During these years and earlier there was no couple killed in Hanestown.

I grew up in Hanestown and my childhood best friend lived in this house you are talking about. The house that you are speaking of used to be at the end of Sheperd St. The house was haunted by a ghost named Dorothy. She was killed in a car accident right before she was to marry. Dorothy has been seen in the house and surrounding woods. (The house has been demolished and no longer stands.) My friends grandmother used to keep a huge family bible on the coffee table and turn a page every night to keep Dorothy calmed down. She was known for much mischief.

On the man found dead in one of the fields, you may be thinking of Dennis Collins, who was found dead behind the bushes at Hanes School in the mid-70s. A few years before, Randy Martin hanged himself behind his parents house...I think on Shepherd...when he was about 16 years old.

Ikey...I remember hearing about that. I spent a lot of time in Hanestown in the late 60s and early 70s with some of the guys I knew. I may know you, or we at least probably know some of the same people.
Have you seen the "Village of Hanestown" page on facebook? It's really triggered a lot of memories for me.
