OK. WE need info. Thanks to Renee, we now know Dorothy. oir ghost, was named Dorothy Martin. She was related to "Doc" Martin. Anyone know this man's real name? Also, the house stood on Pine St., which is now Seaman St. Shepard St. did not exist when she was killed. It was built later, and intersects with Seaman in front of the lot where the house stood. Does anyone know when Pime was renamed Seaman,or when Shepard was built? This will help narrow the search considerably. Thx!

Window os narrowed sharply... HAD to have happened before 1951, as the Marley family was there then. Since it's said the house was haunted when they moved in, this makes it earlier than 1951, When the address was 412 Pine Street. By 1955, the na,me was changed. We COULD go back to the theory that her death occurred in an accident in front of the hoise, and she didn't live there. I just don't know...

I want to thank Renee' Laird Brown, Missi Thompson Brandewie, Shea Minter Evans, Joan Montgomery Moses Hazlett, John Travis, Sherry Brown-Lawless, Amy Spease, Kristen Crutchfield Brown, Mike StoltzKristen Ford-Newell and anyone I've missed who has taken a shot at this Hanestown story of "Dorothy." All the evidence you have gathered clearly indicates that the girl Dartha Beck, #2 Pine St. in Hanestown, who died April 25th, 1920 at Lawrence Hospital in Winston-Salem... after a wreck on April 18th, 1920, IS, in fact, the origin of the legend of a ghostly girl haunting a house that once stood on the lot indicated in Hanestown. The confusion aboit nher name can be attributed to speech dialect, accents, and misunderstanding by census workers. Dartha Beck, aka Dorothy Beck, aka Dollie Lee Beck IS our girl! Thanks everyone for your hard work and assistance. Now, need a photo of her house, her and/pr her family, etc... Found a photo of Lawrence Hospital... It's the Old Rescue Mission on Oak St.,downtown Winston-Salem...

I know, the stories say different things. But the circumstances, addresses, window of time period it was possible, amd other evidence CLEARLY indicate this is the one. Truth RARELY matches legend to a tee...

link Hello everyone. Boy has it been a long time since I have been on this site. I thought I would come back and see if there was anything new happening. I happened to see this post that I did several years ago. My mother lived in HanesTown as well as my Great Grandmother. I may have already mentioned that in the previous posts but I do have some pictures that I have found I will try to post.

I lived in Hanes village from September 1942 until June 1954.I attended Hanes Elementary School. Never once did I hear of any of the houses in Hanestown being haunted. As a child and a teenager living there I would have heard of haunted houses if any stories had been circulated. During these years and earlier there was no couple killed in Hanestown. Justso you know. I have found the DEATH Certificate of th girl in question, who died in 1920. Also have documented witness statements. Just because you didn't hear abot it, doesn't mean it didn't happen. Dorothy Beck's deth and haunting stories are FACTUAL
