Hello all - I'm a newbie and trying to find some information.
Back around 1975, the parents of friends of mine took a group of us to an Abandoned church, which I believe was in Randolph County, down near the Moore/Randolph County line. It was supposed to have been haunted and I recently heard of someone talking of a 'well known and very haunted abandoned church" close to Asheboro. I've moved back here and am wanting to do some checking. I can't believe it is possible that this could be the same church, but thought I'd take a chance.
Given the history of Randolph County - as well as the surrounding counties and their involvement in the Revolutionary War, I'm really surprised at the lack of sites. I've heard the Purgatory Mtn, "Lydia" and Pisgah Covered Bridge stories since I was a child - I'm happy to see that there are people out there who, like me, are interested in the paranormal 'histories' of where our roots lie.
I'm also looking for ghost stories verified/unverified for cemeteries in the Randolph County area - any help would be greatly appreciated.
Nice site! Great work!

One of the Greensboro College ghosts, 6yr old Ethel Peacock, is buried in Trinity. There was a section of Old 64 haunted by a girl who'd pop up beside the driver screaming for them to slow down, but the road has been re-routed. Spookywoods is haunted by real spirits. The Lydia story has turned out to have problems, the primary one being there is NO Lydia who died in Guilford Co. between 1900 and 1940 who fits the 1923 legend... There is evidence, all circumstantial, that the girl killed at the Underpass was named Mary, and Lydia was a pseudonym created by a past author. Amy, Mom, and I were in Asheboro this summer presenting a program on NC ghosts and our books, which present the facts about many legends, though people don't want to hear some of it. Our books are ROADSIDE REVENANTS AND OTHER NORTH CAROLINA GHOSTS AND LEGENDS, TAR HEEL TERRORS: MORE NORTH CAROLINA GHOST AND LEGENDS, and GHOSTS OF THE TRIAD: TALES FROM THE HAUNTED HEART OF THE PIEDMONT...

Special Guest will be Professor Al Proffit of ASU if he is able to come. If he does, he will be bringing a "Frank's Box" with him.
