In Winston, there is a Moravian church that stands as the fourth incarnation of the building. Before it, three buildings stood with the name. Two built where the cemetery is now, the latest two stand where it is now. The church owns land from the top to the bottom of the hill it was built on. Further down the hill sits a playground, shelter and a hiking trail. Let me tell you stories of my own and stories of those I've known and worked with.
The first experience I had with the supernatural at this location occurred on the hiking trail. The trail takes you down through a lightly wooded area before spitting you out at a baseball field beside the church. I was there as part of a cub scout hiking activity. As we crossed a small bridge that covered a small creek. The air grew cold, colder than what would be natural for a July night in North Carolina's piedmont. No wind blew that night, there was only a sudden drop in temperature. I remember it being so cold, I had to ask my father to let me use his sweatshirt. The only reason this memory came back to me recently was my father bringing it up when we were talking about the location's activity.
My next paranormal experience would come later when I would work at the building. For the most part, the building was empty outside of Sundays. I was to work an afterschool and summer camp at the location. During these days before the student came in, I often had to sit alone in the youth room of the building. This room sat below the Sanctuary, several mornings when there were no-one else in the church, I could hear the sound of the organ playing above me. I had gone to check on it in the past, always making sure I wasn't crazy but as soon as I entered the stairwell, it would go silent and I wouldn't find anyone in the room. This was reported by several members of my team as well as other workers of the building. Besides that, the most common activity of the building were the sound of footsteps when no-one was around and the feeling of someone watching you from the dark hallways of the building. The most bizarre encounter I had though was the appearance of a full body apparition seen by not just me but my co-worker. We had lined the children up to take them outside when we see one wearing a black hoodie and grey pants sprint out of line, into the youth room. I followed, ready to get onto them as we had been struggling to get them in line for the past several minutes. I walked into the room, slowly checking around the area, side offices and bathrooms. After a minute, my co-worker comes in and asks which kid was the one to run in. That's when I had to explain what had happened. They didn't believe me at first and had to do a check themselves but after that, they were pretty shaken working in there. I quit the following summer so I could focus on my internships I had to work on with college but I've been told stories from other workers since my time gone.
The pre-school is run on the opposite side of the church, underneath the athletic court. It supposedly has a high amount of activity. Before I left, there was a new worker I was wishing luck with the ghosts there. She didn't believe me until the next day when something switched off her classroom's lights while she was working, only to flip them back on after she approached it. Another co-worker has told me she refuses to be the first one down there in the morning. She's reported the sounds of children talking in the dark and toys being out of where they were placed the nigh before, arranged into circles on the floor.
I have tried to speak with higher ups at the church but been denied the chance of an investigation. With all the experiences both I and others have had it seems impossible there isn't something within that church.
